Asset Mapping Project: College-Going Resources in Silicon Valley

In partnership with the Silicon Valley Higher Education Roundtable (SilVHER), the UC Santa Cruz Educational Partnership Center (EPC) is engaged in developing an asset map of all the college-going initiatives across the member institutions, including:

  • De Anza Community College
  • Evergreen Community College
  • Foothill Community College
  • Gavilan Community College
  • Mission Community College
  • National Hispanic University
  • San Jose City College
  • San Jose State University
  • University of California, Santa Cruz
  • West Valley Community College

We approach regional partnerships with the goal of aligning program services and building on the strengths of each institution and partner agency. Asset mapping is a process for collecting and analyzing uniform data on a wide variety of initiatives to map and get a picture of the available services in a geographic region across multiple institutions and agencies. This provides partnership councils the ability to identify strengths, opportunities, gaps, and align efforts.

Educational institutions often have multiple initiatives focused on increasing student achievement and college-going/transfer rates, and it is challenging to track and be knowledgeable of programs within one single institution. The SilVHER Asset Mapping project will result in a regional view across multiple higher education partners.

The findings from this project will inform the actions and next steps of SilVHER as roundtable members seek to make a broader regional impact through alignment and increased investment with the goals of increasing access to college from high school and community college transfer pathways.
