Martin M. Chemers, Ph.D. is the Principal Investigator. Currently Professor and Chair of UCSC’s psychology department, Dr. Chemers’ scholarly interests include leadership, cross-cultural issues, and academic self-efficacy.
Faye Crosby, Ph.D. advises the research team regarding research design and mentoring issues. Currently Professor of Psychology, Dr. Crosby focuses on social justice issues and especially on race and sex discrimination and on mechanisms like mentoring and other forms of affirmative action that help diminish discrimination.
Barbara Goza, Ph.D. is the Project Manager. She has 30 years experience in program evaluation and applied research, recently as Director of Research and Evaluation at the Educational Partnership Center.
Lisa Hunter, M.S., a chemist, supports the research team’s analysis of scientific inquiry and science support program policy and management. As Associate Director of Education and Human Resources at UCSC’s Center for Adaptive Optics and in prior positions, Ms. Hunter has developed and disseminated educational practices that effectively engage students in authentic research in internship and classroom settings.
Deborah Kogan, M.C.P. is in private practice as a program evaluation consultant, having worked with a number of national-level workforce development initiatives as well as science support programs. She supports the research team in the area of qualitative methodology and applied research.
Carrol Moran, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of the UCSC Educational Partnership Center, which oversees several of the science support programs in the study. She provides input regarding policy issues related to enrichment programs, as well as regarding her scholarly interests in second language and literacy development and in program evaluation.
Julie Shattuck, M.A. is a program evaluation consultant in private practice, specializing in informal and formal science education and youth development programs. Ms. Shattuck’s work on the research team focuses on qualitative methods and program evaluation.
Jerome Shaw, Ph.D. contributes to the research team’s understanding of science education assessment, emphasizing linguistic and cultural contexts of assessment. After a career teaching science in elementary and secondary levels, he is currently Assistant Professor of Education at UCSC.
Eileen Zurbriggen, Ph.D. consults with the research team regarding experimental design and statistics. Currently Associate Professor of Psychology at UCSC, Dr. Zurbriggen’s scholarly interests include trauma, sexuality, and women’s issues.
